Lush treat from Laithwaites

Friday night is steak night and calls for a robust red. It was a rare return for me, Opi Malbec Reserve 2009 from Mendoza, Argentina. £10.99. Argentina is building a deserved reputation for the big juicy reds that are just right for grilled meat and this is a prime example. Big bodied at 14% with plenty of black fruit without being obviously over extracted. The tannins are firm but not over-powering, despite the alcohol this slips down very quickly.
