English Wine Bar

I know all of them in London are English wine bars, but this one only sells English wine. The Wine Pantry is a recent addition to Stoney St in Borough Market and has a range of about two dozen wines to taste or take by the glass. The is a much larger selection to take home in bottle.

The Wine Ranger was in a rush but did try the Dry and Medium 2009 from Sandhurst Vineyards in Kent. Both were made from Bucchus grapes and I was stunned by the quality of the Dry. Crisp acidity and juicy tropical fruits, apricot with a hint of biscuity brioche, not dissimilar to a top NZ Sauvignon or some fruit Italian whites, which goes some way to justifying the the £11.99 price tag. The medium lacked the balance of the dry but still impressed and would make and excellent bed-fellows with some aged pecorino or parmesan.

As English Wine gains credibility then this little shop is an excellent show case.
